“I had dreamed of a mission like this ever since I was young. I felt called to undertake a humanitarian journey somewhere abroad, and I believed in it with the determination that has always driven me. The Citizens’ Movement is an international group of responsible citizens called upon to carry out missions that are as diverse as they are urgent in the areas of health, education, and the environment. For my part, I was assigned to the capital, Yaoundé, to help establish an organization to assist people living with HIV and other pandemics. Our approach was not to cure; it was limited to providing companionship, active listening, and support. By the time I left Cameroon, they were quietly beginning to incorporate medical treatment.”
