In total, between January 1, 2016, and June 9, 2021, a total of $36,823.14 was sent to Cameroon to cover school supplies, emergency medical care, food, and clothing.

Given the lack of medical resources for seniors in remote villages in Cameroon, on September 25, 2017, our organization received donations of emergency medical supplies from the private medical clinic Opti-Soins. Moved by our heartfelt initiative, the clinic’s nurse, Ms. Anik Ouellet, contacted us to provide first-aid kits, disinfectant wipes, catheters with protective sheaths, alcohol swabs, syringes, and bottles of After Wash. This humanitarian initiative enabled our organization to assist nearly a dozen health clinics in Cameroon, where barely 35% of villagers and children have access to health services due to a lack of funds.

Since soccer is the national sport in Cameroon, on April 6, 2021, we received donations from Saguenay Soccer Club, Inc. We were given soccer balls, jerseys, shorts, and cleats. Thanks to this generous gesture and the support of the organization’s employees, 357 young boys aged 7 to 15 were delighted to receive a complete set of sports gear. For some of them, this also made it possible to join the sports-and-academics program established by Mr. Adalbert Antagana, Director General of the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Yaoundé Counseling and Transit Center.

Agriculture is a key sector of Cameroon’s economy, ensuring the country’s food self-sufficiency. It accounts for 22.9% of GDP and, in 2019, represented approximately 23% of the country’s total exports. The agricultural sector is the largest employer, accounting for 62% of the labor force. Through our organization, a community garden was established thanks to financial support from Mr. Jean-Guy Renaud and Ms. Françoise Decelles of the Or Internationale Foundation.

On July 15, 2019, our organization purchased a 2,500-square-meter plot of land in Nkoabang, 186 km from Yaoundé. Currently, this project provides paid employment to eight gardeners and one full-time logistics coordinator. This community garden helps improve food security for its participants by providing direct and easy access to healthy food. Gardening offers several essential benefits for health and community education, as well as economic and environmental benefits. Currently, thanks to our seasonal harvests, 125 bowls of various soups are distributed every day to children aged 5 to 14 in the neighborhoods of Nkolndongo, Essos, and Mvog-Ada.

Let us consider that these orphans in Yaoundé live not only in material poverty, but also in the absence of a functional parent-child relationship. They no longer have the umbilical cord of family ties. This is a huge loss in life. Nevertheless, these abandoned children are not completely destitute, for they are welcomed into the Obilli institution, which perfectly embodies the Church’s traditional commitment throughout history.
