Humanitarian work\u2014especially when carried out in Africa\u2014plays a particularly vital role in the life of a man of compassion and action. This is what inspired Pascal Thibeault to share his impressions and recount his experiences in a book titled *My Civic Mission in Cameroon*, published by \u00c9ditions Espoir.<\/p>

A native of Ville du Saguenay, the author spent eight weeks in Cameroon in 2006. To be part of this mission organized by the citizen movement\u2014an international organization under the umbrella of \u00c9quiterre\u2014Mr. Thibeault was selected, along with 22 others, from among 300 potential candidates.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

\u201cI had dreamed of a mission like this ever since I was young. I felt called to undertake a humanitarian journey somewhere abroad, and I believed in it with the determination that has always driven me. The Citizens\u2019 Movement is an international group of responsible citizens called upon to carry out missions that are as diverse as they are urgent in the areas of health, education, and the environment. For my part, I was assigned to the capital, Yaound\u00e9, to help establish an organization to assist people living with HIV and other pandemics. Our approach was not to cure; it was limited to providing companionship, active listening, and support. By the time I left Cameroon, they were quietly beginning to incorporate medical treatment.\u201d<\/p>

In his book, which will be available at the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean Book Fair at Booth 59 alongside other authors and publishers from the region, the author\u2014who holds certificates in pastoral ministry and theology from UQAC and is currently completing another in philosophy\u2014shares his experiences with other international aid workers. He shares his impressions and gives a voice to the people of Cameroon.<\/p>

\u201cI was able to witness the spiritual convictions of these people, who demonstrate an extraordinary sense of solidarity. Everyone cares about those who are facing difficulties. People work together in the community, and even though they have very little, they show great generosity. This mutual support really struck me,\u201d said Mr. Thibeault, who is also the author of the books *Le Trafiquant d\u2019espoir* (published by \u00c9ditions M\u00e9lonic) and *La Famille en Christ* (published by \u00c9ditions Entraide).
